未来コンビニに併設された屋外カフェテラスがオープンした。未来コンビニの誕生をきっかけに多くの方々が木頭に訪れるが、このカフェテラスは日中帯の滞在場所という機能改善以外に重要な目的がある。地域の中で美しく佇むのは夜間や夜明けなどの営業時間外でその様を見ることで、自然や地域社会の中に建築が立つことの意味を問うきっかけになることを求められた。そのためにはこの場の過去・現在・未来を感じてもらう必要があると考えた。
コンセプトは時をこえて組み合わさるデザイン。この場に元々あったものとこれから作るものを等価にデザインの中に組み込んだ。旧北川小学校の跡地に造成されたカフェテラスは当時の石垣をそのままに残し、新たにできた擁壁が年月を経た擁壁に被さって共存している。また当時の段々状の地形を活かし、大階段や床面など足りない部分をコンクリートで補うことでテラスは作られている。植栽もこの地域に自生している植生をそのままに、新たに植え込んだ植生を織り交ぜ優しい光で等しく照らしてあげることで、新旧の自然が混ざり合う。

An outdoor café terrace attached to MIRAI CONVENIENCE STORE is now open. Although many people visit Kito as a result of the birth of MIRAI CONVENIENCE STORE, the café terrace has an important purpose other than improving the functionality to stay during the daytime hours. The cafe terrace was asked to be a place where people can see how beautifully it stands in the village outside of business hours, such as at night or at dawn, and to provide an opportunity to question the meaning of architecture standing in the midst of nature and the local community. To achieve this, we believed it was necessary to give visitors a sense of the past, present, and future of this place.
The concept is the combination design that transcends time. The design incorporated the things that originally existed here and the things that will be built here in equal proportions. The café terrace, built on the site of the closed Kitagawa Elementary School, retains its original stone walls, and the newly constructed retaining wall. The terraced topography of the site is utilized, and the terrace was built with concrete to fill in the missing parts such as the grand staircase and the floor. The vegetation is a mixture of the old and new nature, with the native vegetation and the newly planted vegetation interwoven and illuminated equally with gentle light.
